Ego: Satan's Gateway

Led By The Spirit or Ego

First, we need to identify what "Ego" really is.

Ego is a person's sense of self-esteem or self-importance, e.g. "He needed a boost to his ego".

Some synonyms of the word ego include self-esteem, self-importance, self-worth, self-respect, self-conceit, self-image, self-confidence, and amour propre (a sense of one's own worth; self-respect).

Ego is a word that has become very much a part of our daily vocabulary and an accepted part of our human nature.

However, the Bible warns us against it. The whole principle of ego is identified with all the "self" words, and is centered in "me, myself, and I".

Ego will separate you from the New Covenant, from Christ, and from God. Even the Old Covenant was about God.

The first commandment is to love the Lord with all your heart, strength, mind, and soul. The second commandment in the New Covenant is to love your neighbor as yourself.

If you do these, you do well.

However, if you operate of your ego it is going to interfere with your true identity, which is in the New Covenant in Christ.

Your ego is your conscious mind, the part of your identity that you consider your "self". If you say someone has "a big ego" then you are saying that he is too full of himself.

Self is a concept that is important for you to identify and clarify in the Gospel.

Ego: Satan's Gate

Ego, as you can see in the Bible, is in fact a gate for Satan.

Matthew 16:21-24 From that time forth began Jesus to shew unto his disciples, how that he must go unto Jerusalem, and suffer many things of the elders and chief priests and scribes, and be killed, and be raised again the third day. Then Peter took him, and began to rebuke him, saying, Be it far from thee, Lord: this shall not be unto thee. But he turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me, Satan: thou art an offence unto me: for thou savourest not the things that be of God, but those that be of men. Then said Jesus unto his disciples, If any man will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me.

In this passage of scripture, you can see that Jesus rebuked Peter. Satan obviously had a door or gateway into Peter. Because of this, the enemy was able to work through Peter's ego (through his self) against the purposes and plans of Lord Jesus.

Jesus had not been to the Cross yet. It is important to discern the timing of things when studying the Word. Peter had not yet been crucified with Christ through baptism.

Satan used Peter's vulnerability to his advantage. Peter was leaning toward his own understanding and his own ego.

Jesus sternly rebuked Satan, discerning the enemy's presence in Peter.

Jesus had discernment. Specifically, he was operating in the gift of discerning of spirits.

The Body of Christ particularly needs to operate in the gift of discerning of spirits because every spirit is not of God.

Even in the Christian Church today, we need to have this gift in operation.

The Word of God says that the spirit of the prophets is subject to the prophets. For this reason, the prophets are also to discern and judge.

Prophets are to judge whether or not a prophecy comes from Christ and whether it is the testimony of Jesus Christ, and not coming through another spirit.

Discernment is crucial because many spirits are in operation.

It is especially important in these last days that you discern whether or not people are prophesying or speaking out of ego or out of themselves. If they are speaking from self then they are allowing the enemy to come in and steal, kill, and destroy.

That is what the enemy are assigned to do.

Ego is a door that Satan uses.

The Old Man that has not been crucified is Satan's gate. The Old Man is the nature that you are born with that has not yet come to the Cross. In the Born Again Man, Satan's gate is shut.

If you are operating out of your flesh or your ego, then that is a direct channel for Satan and for demons to operate through.

Ego is an Antichrist spirit.

The Cross shuts the door to Satan.

Satan cannot get past the Cross. This is why the Message of the Cross is such a vital concept to ensure that you understand.

When you really understand the work of the Cross you will enter into true liberty and freedom and shut the door to Satan.

Satan cannot get past the blood of Jesus or the atoning work and sacrifice of Jesus Christ.

Ego Won't Learn Christ, Because It Is An Antichrist

Ephesians 4:20-22 But ye have not so learned Christ; If so be that ye have heard him, and have been taught by him, as the truth is in Jesus: That ye put off concerning the former conversation the old man, which is corrupt according to the deceitful lusts;

Where do the lusts come from? The flesh.

The flesh is corrupt because it is yoked to the Law of Sin and Death. That Law is yoked to Satan and the Beast system and the world. The world is under the control of Satan at the moment.

Jesus has overcome the world, but until He returns, the world is deceitful.

The flesh lusts after the things of the world. That is your ego.

Ego is rooted in pride, Leviathan, and the Beast. They are all one.

Ego is an Antichrist part of you. You need to identify it because if you don't, then it will destroy you. It will trip you up.

Ephesians 4:23-24 And be renewed in the spirit of your mind; And that ye put on the new man, which after God is created in righteousness and true holiness.

This is a powerful and awesome truth if you can receive and understand it.

Being able to be renewed in the spirit of your mind through the Holy Spirit and through the washing of the Word (Romans 12:1-2) is the work of the Cross.

You must be transformed by the washing of the Word of God through the power of the Holy Spirit.

It must be through the Spirit of God because knowledge puffs us, but the Holy Spirit (love) edifies.

You must put on the New Man to enter into true holiness.

This holiness is not yours. It is not from your own understanding. It is Christ's. The wisdom of God.  

The Bible commands you not to lean on your own understanding, but to acknowledge God in all of your ways.

This wisdom comes from the Holy Spirit in the New Birth. Through the resurrection power of the Holy Spirit you enter into holiness.

Many people cannot believe that, but the Bible commands us to be holy.

The way that you become holy is through the New Covenant, through the Message of the Cross, and through the crucified man.

The crucified man puts to death the work of the flesh. The Old Man becomes crucified through the baptism.

Ego needs to be done away with. It must be crucified.

Ego is a problem that everyone wrestles with and it is pride.

God resists the proud, but gives grace to the humble.

You must humble yourself in order to truly understand and receive from the Spirit of God.

Is It Ego, or Is It Christ?

Luke 22:24-26 And there was also a strife among them, which of them should be accounted the greatest. And he said unto them, The kings of the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and they that exercise authority upon them are called benefactors. But ye shall not be so: but he that is greatest among you, let him be as the younger; and he that is chief, as he that doth serve.

Jesus is saying that his disciples are not to follow the ways of the world.

Ego always wants preeminence. It wants to be exalted and is very much clothed in self.

Jesus had to go to the cross for us to be set free from self through baptism into death.

Even Jesus himself was baptized.

Luke 22:27 For whether is greater, he that sitteth at meat, or he that serveth? is not he that sitteth at meat? but I am among you as he that serveth.

Jesus said that he did not come to be served but to serve.

Christ is your example. It is important that you understand that your position in Christ is to follow Christ. He is your example.

When God came down to earth, He came as a servant. How much more should you take that position?

You are not to lord it over others as the pagans do. Your example is to serve and to be a servant.

Ego will stop you from fulfilling that call. You can see this particularly with the Nicolaitan doctrine and error as well as the doctrine of Balaam.

Balaam is all about self-interest. It reflects Man going after his own ego and self-interests. It's about people wanting their own titles, puffing up themselves with pride, and chasing after the riches of this world. That is what Balaam did.

The Nicolaitan doctrine, which the Lord hates, is about man lording over the laity. It is about obtaining worldly position and status and not Christ's position.

God has appointed the five-fold ministry as elders of the Church.

Elders are to be examples of Christ and to be servants.

If you want to know what the real Church of Christ looks like, then look at Jesus.

Don't look at man or at tradition. Look at Jesus.

He is the Church.

We are also the Church because we are one with Him and we are all in Him.

Philippians 2:3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.

Ego will not let you put others first. Ego goes completely against esteeming others because selfish ambition and conceit contradict the whole mentality of Christ.

The power of Christ is in His righteousness. You can't do it by yourself. You can only do it by humbling yourself by faith in Christ and receiving His identity.

Whose identity are you abiding in?

Your own identity or Christ's?

Is Ego Sitting in the Throne of the Temple?

The Bible tells us that we are the temple of the Holy Spirit now in Christ.

1 Corinthians 6:19-20 What? know ye not that your body is the temple of the Holy Ghost which is in you, which ye have of God, and ye are not your own?

For ye are bought with a price: therefore glorify God in your body, and in your spirit, which are God's.

This is setting the stage for your true identity and who you are now in Christ, the temple of God.

What abides in the temple of God?

The Holy Spirit.

Ego is a result of the fall in the Garden of Eden.

Man died spiritually and allowed Satan to take God's place in his heart. Man became separate from God and became his own God.

Sin separated mankind from God. Satan became Adam and Eve's god through rebellion to God.

Man created his own identity, which is ego.

The author of ego is Satan. Satan works through your ego because it is rooted in false identity.

Ego is idolatry.

1 Corinthians 10:21-22 Ye cannot drink the cup of the Lord, and the cup of devils: ye cannot be partakers of the Lord's table, and of the table of devils. Do we provoke the Lord to jealousy? are we stronger than he?

Man removed himself from the table of the Lord and started drinking and eating from the table of demons.

Demons feed people leaven. In their cups are wickedness. It all feeds self-will.

Demons and satan operate through your lust and your own idolatry.

Ego is seated at the table of demons.

If you are operating in your own ego, you are literally putting yourself at the table of demons.

Ego is idolatry.

Idolatry is an abomination to God.

So, where are you seated?

At your own table, which is at the table of demons, or Christ's?

Who is sitting on the throne of your heart? Ego or Christ?

The harlot in Revelation is sitting on the beast, which represents the world, pride, and Leviathan.

Leviathan is the king over the children of pride.

The harlot, which is an Antichrist spirit, is a type and shadow. She is what sits in your heart. The harlot represents your ego sitting on the beast system in your heart. 

It is rebellion. If you operate in ego you will be drinking from that cup.

Inside of that cup is the blood of the saints, wickedness, death, and destruction.

That is what Satan has come to do. He is a deceiver and he's come to kill, steal, and destroy.

He wants to destroy you through your own idolatry, your own rebellion, and through your own ego.

Self is a big enemy.

Self exalts itself as God and becomes like God.

It is something you need to be very aware of.

Ego's Glory or Christ's Glory

John 7:14-18  Now about the midst of the feast Jesus went up into the temple, and taught. And the Jews marvelled, saying, How knoweth this man letters, having never learned? Jesus answered them, and said, My doctrine is not mine, but his that sent me. If any man will do his will, he shall know of the doctrine, whether it be of God, or whether I speak of myself. He that speaketh of himself seeketh his own glory: but he that seeketh his glory that sent him, the same is true, and no unrighteousness is in him.

If you are operating out of your own ego, then you will see the fruit of that, which is glorifying yourself. That is what ego does.

Who's Kingdom are you building?

Are you building the Lord's kingdom or are you building your own kingdom?

People building their own kingdom will glorify themselves with their titles and names. It is very self-focused. They focus on themselves rather than on Christ.

Jesus said that He made himself of no reputation. That is what you must do also if you want to follow His example. Make yourself of no reputation.

God is the one who exalts.

If you humble yourself, God will exalt you.

The way it works is for you to deny yourself. To deny yourself is to deny ego. Ego is self.

Humility is not thinking less of yourself. It is thinking of yourself less.

You need to think of yourself less, think of others more, love God, and become humble about who you are now in Christ.

Your righteousness comes from Him and not yourself.

You must become totally God sufficient and less self sufficient.

Self will destroy you. Cursed is the man who trusts in man and makes flesh his strength.

Basically, cursed is the man who trusts in ego.

Allow God to remove your masks and false identities. People put on these false faces to hide their vulnerabilities and rejection.

These are all defense mechanisms that Christ has to remove. The way they are removed is by humbling yourself and allowing Christ to transform you through His Spirit.

Strife Comes Out of Promoting Self / Ego

Proverbs 30:32-33 If thou hast done foolishly in lifting up thyself, or if thou hast thought evil, lay thine hand upon thy mouth. Surely the churning of milk bringeth forth butter, and the wringing of the nose bringeth forth blood: so the forcing of wrath bringeth forth strife.

Exalting self is ego. If you promote ego then it will produce strife.

Proverbs 14:14-15 The backslider in heart shall be filled with his own ways: and a good man shall be satisfied from himself. The simple believeth every word: but the prudent man looketh well to his going.

Ego will lead you into backsliding, make you religious and dogmatic, and likely bring in a controlling spirit. Ego will cause you to try to control others in your own vulnerability and put on masks, and not produce the fruit of the spirit.

Ego thinks everything revolves around it. It is putting yourself in the place of God.

Ego Blocks the Holy Spirit's Fruit: Love

1 Corinthians 8:1a (AMPC) Now about food offered to idols: of course we know that all of us possess knowledge [concerning these matters. Yet mere] knowledge causes people to be puffed up (to bear themselves loftily and be proud),

Knowledge will feed ego so be careful of that. Knowledge puffs up but love edifies.

1 Corinthians 8:1b (AMPC) but love (affection and goodwill and benevolence) edifies and builds up and encourages one to grow [to his full stature].

What is that stature?

That stature is in Christ. It is Christ.

We're all being conformed into His image, not the image of ego. Image will derail you. It is designed to that.

Religion will do that too.

"All of us possess knowledge". Paul addresses the sin of arrogance as an introduction to the subject of idolatry (vv.1-3).

Ego is idolatry. it is worship of self.

These comments reveal that behind the behavior of the Corinthians (or at least an important group among them) lay a serious problem of attitude. Their conduct was not guided by love (cf. Ch. 13) but by pride (EGO).

The Old Testament Law will bring pride.

Ego (Idolatry) Causes the Lord to Send a Lying Spirit

Ezekiel 14:1-11 Then came certain of the elders of Israel unto me, and sat before me. And the word of the Lord came unto me, saying, Son of man, these men have set up their idols in their heart, and put the stumblingblock of their iniquity before their face: should I be enquired of at all by them? Therefore speak unto them, and say unto them, Thus saith the Lord God; Every man of the house of Israel that setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to the prophet; I the Lord will answer him that cometh according to the multitude of his idols;

That I may take the house of Israel in their own heart, because they are all estranged from me through their idols.

Their ego set up these idols in their heart.

Ezekiel 14:611 Therefore say unto the house of Israel, Thus saith the Lord God; Repent, and turn yourselves from your idols; and turn away your faces from all your abominations. For every one of the house of Israel, or of the stranger that sojourneth in Israel, which separateth himself from me, and setteth up his idols in his heart, and putteth the stumblingblock of his iniquity before his face, and cometh to a prophet to enquire of him concerning me; I the Lord will answer him by myself:

And I will set my face against that man, and will make him a sign and a proverb, and I will cut him off from the midst of my people; and ye shall know that I am the Lord. And if the prophet be deceived when he hath spoken a thing, I the Lord have deceived that prophet, and I will stretch out my hand upon him, and will destroy him from the midst of my people Israel. And they shall bear the punishment of their iniquity: the punishment of the prophet shall be even as the punishment of him that seeketh unto him; That the house of Israel may go no more astray from me, neither be polluted any more with all their transgressions; but that they may be my people, and I may be their God, saith the Lord God.

Be careful of rushing off to listen to prophets because you want them to answer you according to your ego. Beware!

Many people run off to prophets for a word, but how many times do prophets bring real correction?

Do you really want to hear correction?

Or do you only want to hear what you want to hear and not what God wants to speak to you?

Often we just want to have our ears tickled and hear good things to satisfy ego and the flesh, and not our Spirit.

Ego (Idolatry) the Lord Sends a Lying Spirit

1 Kings 22:8 And the king of Israel said unto Jehoshaphat, There is yet one man, Micaiah the son of Imlah, by whom we may enquire of the Lord: but I hate him; for he doth not prophesy good concerning me, but evil. And Jehoshaphat said, Let not the king say so.

Ahab didn't like Micaiah because he was one prophet that refused to cater to his ego.

Micaiah refused to tell Ahab what his itching ears wanted to hear.

1 Kings 22:19-23 And he said, Hear thou therefore the word of the Lord: I saw the Lord

sitting on his throne, and all the host of heaven standing by him on his right hand and on his left. And the Lord said, Who shall persuade Ahab, that he may go up and fall at Ramothgilead? And one said on this manner, and another said on that manner. And there came forth a spirit, and stood before the Lord, and said, I will persuade him. And the Lord said unto him, Wherewith? And he said, I will go forth, and I will be a lying spirit in the mouth of all his prophets. And he said, Thou shalt persuade him, and prevail also: go forth, and do so.

Now therefore, behold, the Lord hath put a lying spirit in the mouth of all these thy prophets, and the Lord hath spoken evil concerning thee.

Ego, idolatry, and self will bring lying spirits into the prophets that you surround yourself with.

This is why ego is so dangerous as well as why there is so much false prophecy in the Church.

God will send a lying spirit. He will even send a spirit of stupor to those who refuse to know the truth, humble themselves, and deal with their pride, rebellion, and self.

This applies to those who make themselves gods in their own righteousness and not in the righteousness of God.

Ego: The Biggest Idol and the Root of Apostasy

2 Thessalonians 2:9-11 Even him, whose coming is after the working of Satan with all power and signs and lying wonders, And with all deceivableness of unrighteousness in them that perish; because they received not the love of the truth, that they might be saved. And for this cause God shall send them strong delusion, that they should believe a lie:

God will not only send lying spirits to the prophets of those who refuse to hear the truth, but

He will also send a strong delusion.

Beware of idolatry.

Ego is putting things before the Lord and not humbling yourself before the Lord.

Pride is the biggest enemy of the Church.

1 Timothy 4:1 Now the Spirit speaketh expressly, that in the latter times some shall depart from the faith, giving heed to seducing spirits, and doctrines of devils;

People that want to sit at the table of demons will be fed leaven.

Leaven is deception and everything that will corrupt the pure, unleavened Word of God.

God's Word is the unleavened Word of God.

What does a little leaven do?

It will leaven the whole lump.

The Message of the Cross: Ego's Enemy

2 Peter 1:2-4 Grace and peace be multiplied unto you through the knowledge of God, and of Jesus our Lord, According as his divine power hath given unto us all things that pertain unto life and godliness, through the knowledge of him that hath called us to glory and virtue: Whereby are given unto us exceeding great and precious promises: that by these ye might be partakers of the divine nature, having escaped the corruption that is in the world through lust.

You must keep your eyes on the finished work of the Cross.

People under the Old Testament Law will always struggle with ego.

Ego demons need to be cast out, i.e., Pride.

What is God's answer to ego and self?

The Cross.

We must be crucified with Christ, buried with Christ, and raised with Christ.

This is the circumcision of the heart, related to being baptized into Christ.

The Old Testament was a type and shadow of what was to come. The circumcision in the Old Testament was of the flesh (the foreskin). In the New Testament it is a circumcision not done with human hands, but by the Spirit of God.

God will give you a new heart, a new spirit, and cause you to be born again.

If you submit to God by faith and follow Jesus, who is your atoning sacrifice, then the blood of Jesus will cleanse you from ego and put your Old Man to death.

Your Old Man is dead. He got nailed to the Cross. Now it is no longer you who live, but Christ who lives in you. The one who loses his life for Christ's sake shall find it.

The one who loses his ego for Jesus's sake will find Christ.

The Cross is the answer.

Ego is an Antichrist.

The Antichrist's worst enemy is the Cross.

Keys to Escape From Being Yoked to the Beast: Your Ego

2 Peter 1:5-7 And beside this, giving all diligence, add to your faith virtue; and to virtue knowledge; And to knowledge temperance; and to temperance patience; and to patience godliness; And to godliness brotherly kindness; and to brotherly kindness charity.

Ego is excluded in all of this.

2 Peter 1:8 For if these things be in you, and abound, they make you that ye shall neither be barren nor unfruitful in the knowledge of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Christ's heart is unlocked when you abide in these principles.

You must be diligent. You have to run the race. You have to persevere. It is your duty.

Christ has done it all for you. He has made the way.

It is your reasonable service to present your body as a living sacrifice and be holy for the Lord.

You do have a duty. Christ has done it all for you, but you have to make a choice.

What do you want to do?

Do you want to live a lie?

Or do you want to live in the truth?

Doesn't everyone really want to know the truth deep down?

Diligence is your perseverance. That is your duty.

You need to have faith. Faith is how you enter in the Spirit-led life.

Virtue is morality. You become moral.

Through knowledge you gain self-control.

To self control, you must add perseverance so that you can run the race. You have inspiration and perseverance to move forward, looking forward to the hope of your calling.

That brings forth godliness.

Godliness brings forth brotherly kindness. You've taken your eyes completely off of yourself.

Ego has been completely destroyed and cut off.

To brotherly kindness, you add love. At that point, ego has completely vanished. It's gone.

Your life stops being about self, and starts being about serving others.

The Word of God tells you to consider yourself of no reputation.

Your reputation now is Christ. Your identity is Christ's identity. Your righteousness comes from Christ.

If you have self-righteousness, then you are still under the dominion of ego and pride. You will continue to struggle.

All believers must overcome ego.

How do you overcome?

You overcome through the blood of the Lamb, the word of your testimony, and loving not your life unto death.

If you abide in ego, then you will not lay down your life. Instead, you will want to keep it.

But when you do these things, then you will know by faith that to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord.

2 Peter 1:9 But he that lacketh these things is blind, and cannot see afar off, and hath forgotten that he was purged from his old sins. Wherefore the rather, brethren, give diligence to make your calling and election sure: for if ye do these things, ye shall never fall: For so an entrance shall be ministered unto you abundantly into the everlasting kingdom of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ.

The entrance that will be given to you to enter the Kingdom says that it will be provided abundantly. Not just a little bit. I have no doubt that in the original Greek it means more than you could possibly imagine.

The Cross cuts off ego.

2 Corinthians 4:4-6 In their case the god of this world has blinded the minds of the unbelievers, to keep them from seeing the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God. For what we proclaim is not ourselves, but Jesus Christ as Lord, with ourselves as your servants for Jesus' sake.  For God, who said, “Let light shine out of darkness,” has shone in our hearts to give the light of the knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

Satan has blinded the minds of people of this age. It is your ego that actually stops you from entering into the Kingdom of God.

You must allow the glory of Christ, which is the image of God, to shine on you.

Jesus is the light that shines out of the darkness. He came to set captives free. He has brought light to the hearts of men.

Ego sits over the throne of your heart.

The light of Christ Jesus destroys ego. This is why deliverance is so important. God has given you the ability to be delivered from ego.

Deliverance is for all believers. It can be a special gift for some people to instruct and teach, but it is given to all believers so that we all might receive the light and knowledge of the glory of God in the face of Jesus Christ.

When Jesus brings forth the truth, ego is destroyed in your heart.

Ego is an Antichrist spirit that tries to reject and stop you from entering into the truth.

2 Corinthians 4:7 But we have this treasure in jars of clay, to show that the surpassing power belongs to God and not to us.

People with ego have their treasure in themselves and in religion, and not in the excellence of the power of the Holy Spirit in the New Covenant that Jesus Christ made through his blood.

You are commanded to be holy as God is holy.

The only way you can do that is through the excellence of God's power in the New Covenant.

The power of the Spirit comes through faith, not through your ego.

Pick up and carry your cross daily and follow Him!

Taking up your cross is crucifying ego. Nail your ego to the cross so that it won't have any power over you and you can truly walk in the victory and inheritance that you have freely received by grace through faith in the Lord Jesus Christ.

Casting Off Ego and Putting On Christ

It is important that you understand what you have to gain.

Philippians 3:7 But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ.

Ego will trick and deceive you into believing things that are important to you.

Paul is saying that all those things he counted as loss for Christ.

The Cross exposes the deceitfulness of ego.

Philippians 3:8 Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord. For his sake I have suffered the loss of all things and count them as rubbish, in order that I may gain Christ

Many people depend on and rely on self.

When you get a revelation of the inheritance that comes through Christ, your eyes will be opened to the fact that all the things you once valued were actually deception, death, and rubbish.

Paul speaks of the awesome freedom that he has inherited as an heir of Christ and son of God. He had the fruit of the Holy Spirit, which the whole world is chasing after.

Everyone wants rest and to find peace for their souls.

In the New Testament Sabbath, you enter into Christ's rest. It's not about a day. It is about the Spirit.

The rest is in Christ. Christ is the Lord of your Sabbath. Jesus said, "Come to me all who are burdened and heavy-laden and I will give you rest".

Not a day. Christ.

The New Covenant is in the Spirit. You can now enter into His perfect rest in Christ.
